I miss you all terribly. First, I have breaking news. I got a visual on Paul this weekend. He is indeed alive and well, and I'm guessing it was in fact him who joined the blog and not some impostor. Anyways, now on to the news from my life, which is not particularly interesting, but I'll run you through what I've been up to because I always like hearing what y'all are up to.
On the trip home from school, we stopped at Gettysburg (pretty cool, and just how I envisioned it. Eery almost when you're on the battlefield) D.C., and Chincoteague Island, which is a national park in Virginia that has wild horses. Yep caballos libres. Saw some horses in the marsh, went to the beach, got ridiculously sunburned, fun times all around.
Since I've been home, I've been working on medical school applications for most of my time, sprinkling in some job application work (still no job), and then going on trips on the weekend. The first weekend, Charlie and Robbie Paris came to visit for the weekend on Robbie's road trip out to Mississippi for TFA. We went to the laser show at Stone Mountain, went to the World of Coke, and had brunch at this hilariously gay place in Atlanta. I just looked up a brunch place randomly to go to, and the waiters loved us and gave us all free shirts and food and stuff. And when Randy the Waiter heard that Robbie was going to Mississippi his instant response was, "Why? Did you get some barefoot, hot white trash girl pregnant?" Which was pretty awesome. Here's us in our shirts:
I'm the one who's not a twin.
The next weekend my family went to Lampe, MO for my dad's family reunion. And no, I hadn't heard of it either. It's in the middle of nowhere. But on a lake, and my dad's family is hilarious and huge (37 of us), so that was a lot of fun hanging and drinking with the cousins. We also went to the Crsytal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, AR, which was awesome. Yep, that's where the headquarters of Wal-Mart are, and the museum was founded by Alice Walton, one of the Wal-Mart heirs and the 10th richest person in the country. Anyways, the museum has $488 million worth of assets, so basically it's a pretty bomb-ass museum. The best American art museum collection I've seen, everything from Native Americans to contemporary. It was really cool. You should go next time you're in Arkansas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Bridges_Museum_of_American_Art).
Then the next weekend Colby and I went to Knoxville, TN to visit my aunt and uncle and go fishing. My uncle's a huge fisherman, and they have some amazing lakes nearby. It was actually amazing getting to be out on the water for the sunrise and all that sentimental nonsense. And fishing when you are with somebody who knows what they are doing and helps you catch a bunch of big fish is awesome. Waking up at 4:30am 3 days in a row is a bit rough though. Yep, AM Paul. The best trip is that my aunt and uncle are two of the funniest people I know. I'm talking Brian level, but with hilarious Tennessee accents. They have nicknames for everything: their neighbors are Strange Agent and the Cat Killers, stribed bass are Squidhounds, an Asian-looking straw hat my uncle wears fishing is Hop Singh, etc. Anyways, great trip. Then I came back home and worked some more on my personal statement, of which I have literally done 15 drafts. It sucks.
I just got back today from visiting Chloe for a long weekend. It was awesome, great to see her. Went to the Air and Space Museum, had lunch with Paul in D.C. and told him to get on his blog shit, went to the Newseum, which was actually awesome, did some other stuff, played tennis, hung with her family, it was a great trip. And now I'm back home. Hopefully turning in my primary application tomorrow and then doing some job application stuff for the rest of the week until Saturday, when I go to Sullivan's Island in Charleston with my mom's family for a week. I can't wait.
Anyways, I am sure that this was way more information than yall wanted to read about, but I'm not really sure what to do at night now that the NBA playoffs are over.
Did I say that I missed you all?
Love,
Ryan
